Wildcoast asked me to go down to Imperial Beach to shoot the 6th Annual Dempsey Holder Surf Contest. Wildcoast is a nonprofit based out of Imperial Beach that puts on the contest every year. Check out their website at Wildcoast.net

The beachfront

The lifeguard station in the background and the contest site in front.

An empty one rolls in as the contest waits to start

Even Miss Imperial Beach came out to support the contest.

The turnout was as great as the variety of boards

Dempsey Holder was an Imperial Beach surfer and this is his daughter and grandson.

Serge Dedina is the man behind Wildcoast and the contest. He is in the middle with the visor.

Lots of kids everywhere

Homeboy in the middle won his age group and the one a year older than him. He gave one of his prizes back which was a brand new board.

There were a lot of people on the beach by mid day.

There is a research project going on in IB. That is what those sticks are in the water. Not the stand up paddler, the skinny ones in the middle of the frame.
