So we stopped at one of the parcels we were to survey and I saw this on the ground. I immediately called everyone over and we were all freaking out about this stuff. It looked like bird poop but with the most saturated and amazing colors. These photos ended up making it to the Royal Botanical gardens of Edinburgh Scotland and we are still not sure what it was.
If you have any ideas about what this is please email me.
It was strong and solid enough to fuse these rocks together.
So after the space poo we continued on the road to go see a friend named Mike. Mike lives in Baja part time and has built himself an amazing little structure. He was a really interesting and nice guy. Here he shows Kimball some of his rare bones and scopes the waves from his house.
This is what Mike looks at from his house. He told us when there is swell the large birds sit out on the point and hover behind the wave all the way to the beach and catch the small birds on the shore off guard.
Mike put a lot of work in to this house as you can tell.
Zach relaxing
The whole trip I kept thinking how bad things could get if you were not prepared. Case in point. At least his photo made it into Surfer magazine.
Zach ready for some carne asada tacos. There was a big pile of waste from whatever ate this guy.
On our way to go for a surf we had to take one of the roads from the Baja 1000 race. Serge was in the truck in front of us and it kicked up all the dirt which was like powder. We quickly rolled up the windows but the dust was coming in through the vents.
The view from my window looked like we were underwater.
As you can see there is nothing without dust on it.
Ahh, we made it and there is no one out.
Small but clean.

This guy was right by my feet, I was amazed with the color.

The landscape was quite different depending on where you were looking.
This was our next stopover. You will never find this place. Driving in we went through the most lush valley ever. I would not have been surprised if we saw a Dinosaur there.
This is the beach in front of the house.
This is the man of the house. Adrian, he used to be a ranger in this part of Baja. He lives here full time. He was an amazing person to meet, so smart and calm.
Some shots from my hike around the house.
I believe this is a dolphin skull. Kimball asked if they ever tried raising livestock and they did until the mountain lions ate everything.
The family built the house from the ground up. I almost lost my mind when they asked if we wanted to check email. They have satellite internet out there.
Like father like son. Lum and Adrian.
Planning the next stop. Kimball at work.
Lum, Adrian, Serge, Zach and Kimball
Next destination was Alejandro's
When we pulled up there were no waves so we relaxed and explored. I checked out some of the cabanas.
There was a lot of interesting stuff. I guess from people killing time just like I was.
Amigos
More skulls
Here are some the cabanas on the inside. No waves will make anyone go crazy here.
Especially if your name is Charlie and you are from Cardiff

The noose was pretty strange. Not sure if it was used or not.
A real beach cruiser.
This was my office for the day. Downloading cards and trying to get dust out of equipment.
I have seen many versions of the Virgin Mary, but the bikini clad rendition is a first for me.

Those shoes have a couple miles on them. They are handmade in Baja.

Finally some waves showed up and everyone decided to go for a surf. Serge on the left. Kimball on the right.
ZP in the place to be.
Snail trails on the right.
Over it.

One of the locals called this the fake volcano.

Back on the road. One more stop and then home.
This is Santa Rosalaita marina. This was an engineering disaster. You can read about it in Kimball's article on ESPN.com. Some of my photos made the article. I just heard recently there is a video of everyone's favourite surfer out here.
The marina is completely built and looks like it should be running except for rust on gas pumps that have never been and probably will never be used.
The long road home brought a few more surprises. You never know what is coming around the bend, literally.
I'm all about the Tacoma. Zach said it usually takes about 3-5 washings to get this baby clean again. I believe it. I hope you enjoyed these photos. The trip was awesome.
